Rome, Italy, November 30 -- The Contarelli Chappel with the triptych of paintings on the life of Saint Matthew by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, inside the church of San Luigi dei Francesi (St. Louis of the French), in the historic and baroque heart of Rome. Built between 1518 and 1589 by the architects Giacomo Della Porta and Domenico Fontana, the church was consecrated on 8 October 1589. This Catholic temple is the national church in Rome of France, dedicated to the figure of King St. Louis IX. Caravaggio painted this triptych between 1599 and 1600, illustrating The Vocation of Saint Matthew (left), The Inspiration of Saint Matthew (center) and The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew (right). A view of the stunning frescoes inside de apse of the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The frescoes, depicting the Stories of the Virgin, were painted by Filippo Lippi between 1467 and 1469. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Rome, Italy - May 12, 2018: The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is located in the Castro Pretorio district, near Termini Station and was built between 1879 and 1887 at the behest of Pope Pius IX who, in 1870, laid the foundation stone of the new building. However, due to the annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy, the work was interrupted; it was only thanks to San Giovanni Bosco that construction could be resumed in 1880 and completed in 1887 by the architect Francesco Vespignani. The beautiful interior of the church of Santa Maria della Pace (Church of Saint Mary of Peace) in the historic heart of Rome, in the Piazza Navona district. Built in 1482 during the pontificate of Sisto IV, the church was designed in the Renaissance style with a trapezoidal plan and an octagonal cross by the architect Baccio Pontelli. In 1656 Pietro da Cortona designed the Baroque-style façade with a semi-circular colonnade.
