Saururus chinensis, commonly called Asian lizard’s tail, has attractive, green foliage with white splotches on the leaves at the top of the plant. It is native to wetlands, including water gardens, meadows, marshes, ditches, swampy forested areas, fields and roadsides in East Asia. Minute, spicily fragrant, white to yellowish-white flowers bloom in early to mid-summer (June-August). Each flower spike resembles the tail of a lizard, hence the common name.

Dietes iridioides, commonly called African Iris and Fortnight Lily, comes from eastern and southern Africa. It is a rhizomatous, evergreen perennial that generally resembles iris and grows 2-4’ tall. It produces fan-shaped clumps of iris-like, narrow, sword-shaped, basal, evergreen leaves. Flowers appear on branched stalks. In frost-free areas, plants bloom spring to fall and intermittently throughout winter. Flowers last one day, but are quickly replaced. Each flower (to 3†wide) is white with yellow and blue markings. Each flower stalk carries a large supply of buds.\nThe name fortnight lily is based on the blooming cycle of the flowers, where new blooms come up approximately every two weeks.

Violet-white Calathea maranta flower
A close-up view of a stunning Orchid mantis (Hymenopus coronatus) resting gracefully on a shrub. The mantis, with its delicate white and pink coloration, resembles the petals of an orchid flower, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. The green leaves and branches provide a soft, blurred background that emphasizes the mantis's intricate details and delicate beauty. Its poised posture and camouflaged appearance highlight the mantis's natural elegance and the remarkable adaptation that helps it evade predators and ambush prey in its natural habitat.

Aristolochia salvadorensis, also known as Darth Vader plant, since it looks like Darth Vader of Star Wars, is a woody climber native to El Salvador. It belongs to the Aristolochiaceae family of plants, which includes pipevines, birthworts and Dutchman’s pipe. The weird, corpse-like appearance of Darth Vader pipe vine flowers is due to adaptations that ensure its survival. The helmet-like shape and purple coloration of the blooms, combined with the powerful aroma of rotting flesh, tends to attract insect pollinators.\nOnce enticed, insects fly through the Darth Vader plant’s luminous “eyes.†The inside of the blooms is lined with sticky hairs that imprison the insects long enough to cover them with pollen. They are then released to fly out and pollinate more blooms.
