Sulmona, Abruzzo, Italy. In the foreground the flowery fountain in Ss. Annunziata Square. In the background the main portal of the Palazzo della Ss. Annunziata, called dell'Horologio (1415-1423). The palace is a public building, built in different phases, from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, as a hospital. Today it is a museum area with an archaeological and medieval-modern sections, the Roman Domus room and the museum of Abruzzo-Molise folk costume and transhumance. The main portal opens on the façade. It is surmounted by a lunette where the sculptural group of the Virgin and Child is inserted. Above it there is a Gothic archivolt in which it is inserted the statue of Saint Michael. Through the portal you can see a wall of the inner courtyard of the palace on which there is a fifteenth-century statue of the Roman poet Ovid.

Located about 100 kilometers north of Rome, in the Lazio region, Viterbo is also known as the City of Popes because in the 13th century it was the seat of papal power for 24 years. Founded by the Etruscan civilization and recognized as a city in the year 852, Viterbo is characterized by its peperino stone and tuff constructions, materials abundantly present in this region of central Italy.
