Crest for the hilltop village of Ramatuelle, in the Var region of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur in the peninsula of St Tropez facing out on to the Bay of Pampelonne in the Mediterranean Sea. The village was built on a hill as it was easier to defend against enemies. This village crest carries a representation of the superb elm tree that once grew in the village square, Place de L'Ormeau and was originally planted by the Duke of Sully, Maximilien de Béthune (1560 - 1641). The elm was replaced by an olive tree in 1983, a symbol of Provence. The tree remains to this day as the symbolic representation of the village. Good copy space.
