The Chapel at West Parish dates to 1909. It was constructed as part of a master plan to expand the small burial ground there to a 50 acre garden cemetery, with rolling hills, valleys, ponds, and elegant landscaping.\n\nThe architect was George C. Shattuck, and he designed the chapel in a Romanesque style reminiscent of small Scottish kirks. \n\nThe chapel was built out of native stone from a quarry adjacent to the cemetery. The central arched entry with an architrave, typical of Romanesque churches, carved with a Celtic braid design. A rose window directly above the entry provides additional light for the interior. Two small bas relief angels on either side of the rose window watch over those who enter.
