It was established in 1966, when the area was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the prehistoric rock carvings, mud volcanoes and musical stones in the region.\n\nGobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve acquired national status in 2006, and Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. As of 2011, the Petroglyph Museum functions in the reserve.$

Taft Point, located in Yosemite National Park near Glacier Point is very much like Glacier Point in that it offers wide views of the valley and other attractions like Yosemite Falls and El Capitan. The main attraction of Taft Point are the giant fissures in the mile high granite rock beneath you. The fissures are breaks/cracks in the mountain that drop directly down to the valley floor at some points.

Nauru plateau: barren moonscape of jagged rock pinnacles, unsuitable for agriculture, industry, forestry or even housing, the result of decades of phosphate mining that destroyed the island's natural environment. Nauru is a phosphate-rock island with rich deposits near the surface, which allowed easy strip mining operations for over a century, though at the cost of seriously harming the island's environment.
