Boston, Massachusetts, USA - May 14, 2023: View of bowsprit of USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides. The ship is a three-masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the world's oldest ship still afloat. She was launched in 1797, one of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. Constitution is most noted for her actions during the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom, when she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five smaller British warships. Constitution was retired from active service in 1881 and served as a receiving ship until being designated a museum ship in 1907.

The Tall Ship KALMAR NYCKEL participates in the Downrigging Weekend at Chestertown, Maryland, USA.  KALMAR NYCKEL is a re-creation of the first colonial Swedish settlement ship to arrive in America. Launched in the Fall of 1997, this ornately carved 17th century reproduction ship sails seasonally, visiting ports from the Mid-Atlantic through New England while carrying out her mission of goodwill and providing educational opportunities for school children.  The annual Sultana Downrigging Weekend is one of the largest annual Tall Ship and wooden boat festivals on the East Coast. Originally established to mark the end of the schooner SULTANA’s sailing season, Sultana Downrigging Weekend has grown to become a celebration of maritime culture, wooden boats, and everything else that makes the Chesapeake Bay great.
