Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora) flower heads from above. A wildflower not a mushroom, in the New England forest in midsummer. With one flower on each stem, this is one of the few plants that lack chlorophyll (which makes plants green). It can live in dark forests because it needs no sunlight for photosynthesis. Crassula ovata, which is commonly called jade plant, money plant or dollar plant, is a popular branched succulent shrub, native to South Africa. Native to Paraguay, Uruguay, Southern Brazil and Northern Argentina, Feijoa sellowiana is a slow growing, multi-stemmed evergreen shrub. Commonly called Feijoa, Pineapple guava, Acca sellowiana and Guavasteen, it can be trained to be a small tree with a single trunk, espaliered or pruned to form a dense hedge or screen. The flower season is from late spring to summer. Its flowers consist of fleshy white petals and showy red/scarlet stamens. The petals are edible. The green fruits mature in autumn and also edible.
