Umbellularia californica is a large hardwood tree native to coastal forests and the Sierra foothills of California, and to coastal forests extending into Oregon. It is a shrub that is found in the shola forests of the Western Ghats in South India. Nilgiri Hills, which literally means the blue mountains, got their name from the purplish blue flowers of Neelakurinji that blossoms only once in 12 years.

Erica canaliculata, also called channelled heath, hairy gray heather, bull’s eye design Erica, Janome Erika (in Japan), black stamen Erica, and black-eyed heath, is an erect growing evergreen shrub, which is native to South Africa. It is a flowering plant, with large sprays of pink flowers with black stamen which bloom in winter and spring (December-March).
