$Oslo, Norway, June 19, 2019: Looking at the famous Royal Palace (Norwegian: Slottet or Det kongelige slott) in Oslo, Norway. The night is still illuminated by blue light because of the midnight-sun effect over the north polar circle.\nThe Palace was built in the first half of the 19th century as the Norwegian residence of the French-born King Charles III John of Norway, who reigned as king of Norway and Sweden. The palace is the official residence of the current Norwegian monarch while the Crown Prince resides at Skaugum in Asker west of Oslo.\nThe palace is located at the end of Karl Johans gate in central Oslo and is surrounded by the Palace Park with the Palace Square in the front. In front of the castle is the so called Slottsplassen ('The Palace Square'). It is located in front of the Royal Palace, and was designed by Hans Linstow together with the Palace and the Royal Palace Park. Its most prominent feature is the statue of Charles John of Norway and Sweden, sculpted by Brynjulf Bergslien and erected in 1875.$

Oslo, Norway: Norwegian Royal Palace - Slottet - the main residence of the King of Norway. It was built from 1825 to 1849 by Charles III John, who reigned as king of Norway and Sweden, designed by the architect Hans Linstow in the classicist style. The building is located at the end of Karl Johans gate, is surrounded by 22 hectares of gardens. It serves as the king's residence, a place of state representation, the administration of the monarchy and also the most elegant guest house in the country. The building is a three-wing complex made of plastered brick. The Karl Johan monument is an equestrian statue by Brynjulf Bergslien, in 1875.

Oslo, Norway: Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters - Victoria terrasse building, completed in 1890, then Norway's largest and finest tenement complex. The building complex spans three blocks, with a 180 metres façade. The complex was built for the Petersburg Company (originally the Algiers Company). The main architect was Henrik Thrap-Meyer, but other architects were also involved, including Olaf Due in collaboration with Paul Due and Bernhard Christoph Steckmest. It was taken over by the Norwegian government in 1913 and put to use by the police and various political departments. During the occupation of Norway in April 1940, the building was taken over by the German forces, housing the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) and Sicherheitspolizei (SiPo), which included the Gestapo.
