The beautiful side facade of the Cattedrale di San Feliciano (Cathedral of St Felician) in the medieval heart of Foligno, in Umbria. The Cathedral, or Duomo di Foligno, was built in Romanesque and Gothic style in the period 1133–1201 and dedicated to Felician who died in Foligno in 251 AD. Founded since pre-Roman times by the Umbrian people, Foligno was dominated by the Lombards and later by the Duchy of Spoleto. In the Middle Ages this city strategically placed between Spoleto and Perugia was an important trading center along the ancient Via Flaminia. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands.
