It is the only European Species that lay eggs in living wood.\nOccurrence:\nWidespread and common in most of Europe; inexplicably absent until recently from Great Britain (where suitable habitat abounds). Benefits from urbanization, favoring garden and park ponds, and possibly expending northwards.\nHabitat: \nAlmost any type of standing or slow flowing water with bordering trees and bushes.
