The Fiesta de la Cabera del Peropalo or Zurra is a carnival celebration in Villanueva de la Vera, Cáceres, which consists of the trial and punishment of a puppet named Peropalo. According to some hypotheses, it is an agrarian fertility ritual of pre-Roman origin, or the recreation of the capture and torture of a guerrilla or a criminal. The festival begins on Head Sunday, when the doll's head is removed, and ends on Carnival Tuesday, when the Peropalo is burned between jotas and drums. December 18th 2022, Madrid,Spain: Musicians are playing traditional spanish instrument Zambomba at a festival at Plaza Espana.\n\nIt is a celebration during Christmas which flamenco style carols are sung in the streets of different towns in Spain.The name comes from the typical instrument used at Christmas time, which accompanies popular canticles and Christmas carols since old times.It is a kind of improvised percussive instrument, which used to be made from a clay flowerpot or a paint tin. Over the pot, a piece of leather is stretched and a cane or a stick inserted through the skin. The up-and-down movement of the stick creates the characteristic droning sound of the Zambomba.
