Golden Dewdrop Duranta erecta, Sky Flower Native to Tropical America
The genus Passiflora contains over 400 species with considerable variety within them and the common name Passion Flower can be confusing. Some passion flowers are vines, but some are bushes and even trees. Some are annuals and some others are perennials, and evergreen and deciduous. Some produce edible fruits. What they share are exotic, fascinating flowers that remain open for only a few days. They have a wide, flat petal base with several rings of filaments in the centers which surround a stalk that holds up the ovary and stamens. Colors include blue, purple, white, pink, red and yellow. Most commonly grown forms are vines that climb and cling by tendrils.
