A beautiful view of Ponte Vecchio and the left bank of the Arno River, in the historic and medieval heart of Florence, in Tuscany. Built between 1339 and 1345, the oldest and most beautiful bridge in Florence is also one of the most beautiful and famous in the world for its peculiar structure, surmounted by ancient buildings used in medieval times for meat and vegetable shops. Only later the shops on the Ponte Vecchio bridge were occupied by goldsmiths and watchmakers, currently present. The covered structure of the bridge also contains the famous Vasari Corridor, a long passage built in 1565 to connect Palazzo Vecchio, in Piazza della Signoria, and Palazzo Pitti, the private residence of the Medici family. Since 1982 the historic center of Florence has been a Unesco World Heritage Site. Image in high definition format.

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre in Rome, Italy.
Ponte Vecchio on River Arno of Florence in Tuscany, Italy. This medieval arch bridge was built in 1345 after its predecessors had been swept away by floods. On Hitler’s orders, the bridge was the only Florentine one spared when the Nazis retreated from Florence in August 1944. Floods in 1966 severely damaged the Ponte Vecchio, but it today stands proud, home to goldsmiths and jewellers after its many butchers were outlawed by decree in 1595 in order to clean up the area. Today the only menace to the bridge are love locks which are discouraged and incur a fine from authorities.
