A spring germinated annual, rather like M. altissima, but the flowers white, slightly smaller, 4-5mm, the standard petal longer than the wings and keel. Pod 3-5mm, hairless, greyish brown when ripe.\nHabitat: Open places, especially on arable land and fields, in waste places and alongroadsides, a fairly frequent weed or ruderal, to 1850m.\nFlowering Season: July-September.\nDistribution: Widespread through Europe, more local or rare in Holland and Scandinavia; naturalized in Britain and Belgium.

Anania hortulata, the small magpie, is a species of moth of the family Crambidae. It is found in Europe and North America. \nThe wingspan is 24–28 millimeters. The head and thorax are deep ochreous-yellow, black-spotted. Forewings are yellowish-white, markings blackish ; base blackish, with two ochreous-yellow marks ; a suffused costal streak ; lines thick, first irregular, second tending to form spots, curved, narrowest below middle ; small orbicular and large round discal spots, touching costal streak ; a terminal fascia tending to form spots, edge parallel to second line. Hind wings with colour, second line, and terminal fascia as in forewings ; a blackish discal spot. The larva is whitish ; dorsal line dull green, white-edged ; head and plate of 2 black. \nThe moth flies from June to July depending on the location. \nThe larvae feed on Stachys, mint and nettle (source Wikipedia).\n\nThis Picture is made during a Long Weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2019.

Short to medium, hairy perennial, overwintering by leafy rosettes; stems erect, rather robust. \nLeaves mostly opposite or whorl, oblong to linear-lanceolate, scarcely stalked, slightly toothed, not clasping the stem. Flowers pale purplish-pink, small , 7-12mm , in a lax raceme; stigma 4-lobed. Variable species.\nHabitat: Waste ground on damp soils, stream banks, marshes and fens, to 2500m.\nFlowering Season: July-August\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except the extreme North, the Faeroes and Iceland.\n\nI found this Species in my Garden on a damp location in the Summer of 2022.
