The dome of the Cattedrale di San Feliciano (Cathedral of St Felician) emerges from the alleys of the medieval town of Foligno in Umbria, in central Italy. The Cathedral, or Duomo di Foligno, was built in Romanesque and Gothic style in the period 1133–1201 and dedicated to Felician who died in Foligno in 251 AD. Founded since pre-Roman times by the Umbrian people, Foligno was dominated by the Lombards and later by the Duchy of Spoleto. In the Middle Ages this city strategically placed between Spoleto and Perugia was an important trading center along the ancient Via Flaminia.
