A view of the stunning frescoes inside de apse of the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The frescoes, depicting the Stories of the Virgin, were painted by Filippo Lippi between 1467 and 1469. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. Siena, Tuscany, Italy, July 07 -- The stunning frescoed interior, with the apse and the main altar, of the church of the Santissima Annunziata, in the heart of the medieval city of Siena, in Tuscany, central Italy. Located in the square of the Cathedral of Siena, this church was built in 1257, while its interior was remade in Baroque style in 1730. In the background, behind the main altar, the apse is completely frescoed with a work by the Neapolitan artist Sebastiano Conca (1680-1764) depicting the Pool of Betzaeta, mentioned in the Gospel of John, with a stunning false perspective. Siena is one of the most beautiful Italian cities of art, in the heart of the Tuscan hills, visited for its immense artistic and historical heritage and for its famous popular traditions. Built in 1257 as part of the ancient Spedale di Santa Maria della Scala, the church was remodeled in successive stages during the 15th century. In the photo, the apse with frescoes by Sebastiano Conca painted in 1731 and the High Altar with the bronze statue of the Risen Christ, a masterpiece from 1476 by the artist Lorenzo di Pietro.
