Rome, Italy, January 07 -- A view of the iconic Roman Pantheon dome, one of the best preserved Roman structures in the eternal city. Built in 27 BC by the consul Marco Vispanio Agrippa for the emperor Augustus, it was dedicated to all Roman divinities. In the picture we can appreciate the mighty columns and the magnificent dome, still today one of the largest in the world, characterized by an opening called 'oculus' placed at its top. Currently in the Pantheon it is home to a Catholic church and inside there are the tombs of some Italian kings and the remains of the great Renaissance artist Raffaello Sanzio (Raphael). A suggestive perspective of the rear side of the Tempietto in the courtyard of the church of San Pietro in Montorio, located on the Janiculum hill in the historic district of Trastevere, in the heart of Rome. Built in 1510 by the architect Donato Bramante, the Tempietto (Small Temple) is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, with the search for a perfect balance of shapes and volumes. The circular plan and the relationship between the dome and the colonnade recalls the classical values of Roman architecture, such as the famous Temple of Vesta located in the Roman Forum. According to tradition, the Tempietto was built to celebrate the martyrdom of St. Peter, which supposedly took place on the Janiculum. Trastevere is an iconic district of the Eternal City, due to the presence of countless artistic and historical treasures, monuments and ancient Romanesque and Baroque churches, but also for its squares and alleys to be explored freely, where it is easy to find typical restaurants, pubs, small shops of artisans and scenes of daily life with the original Roman soul. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Super wide angle and high definition image.

The Pantheon ('to every god') in the Piazza della Rotonda in Rome, Italy was built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 BC and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian in about 126 AD. The concrete for the coffered dome was poured in moulds, probably mounted on temporary scaffolding. The oculus (round opening on top of the dome) is the main source of natural light.
