The Temple of the Cross pyramid, in the foreground, is one of the biggest known structures of the ancient Maya City of Palenque, located in Mexico's southern state of Chiapas. After its abandonment, it was slowly absorbed into the jungle, before being rediscovered hundreds of years later.\nDespite extensive excavations in the past decades, archeologist estimate that less than 10% of the site has been explored so far, and that over a thousand buildings are still buried.
