Salvia nutans, nodding sage, is a species of Salvia in the family Lamiaceae, native to Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and possibly Siberia. The flowers of Salvia nutans are borne on slender, arching spikes that emerge from the upper leaf axils. Each spike is densely packed with tubular, two-lipped flowers that are typically violet-blue in color. The flowers have a hooded upper lip and a three-lobed lower lip, which give them a unique appearance. Flowering usually occurs in late spring to early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
