The beautiful side facade of the Cattedrale di San Feliciano (Cathedral of St Felician) seen from Piazza della Repubblica, in the heart of the medieval town of Foligno, in Umbria, in central Italy. The Cathedral, or Duomo di Foligno, was built in Romanesque and Gothic style in the period 1133–1201 and dedicated to Felician who died in Foligno in 251 AD. Founded since pre-Roman times by the Umbrian people, Foligno was dominated by the Lombards and later by the Duchy of Spoleto. In the Middle Ages this city strategically placed between Spoleto and Perugia was an important trading center along the ancient Via Flaminia. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. Aymara woman walking on Isla del Sol (Island Of The Sun), Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. Isla del Sol is an island in the southern part of Lake Titicaca. It is part of the modern Plurinational State of Bolivia. Geographically, the terrain is harsh; it is a rocky, hilly island. There are no motor vehicles or paved roads on the island. The main economic activity of the approximately 800 families on the island is farming, with fishing and tourism augmenting the subsistence economy. Of the several villages, Yumani and Cha'llapampa are the largest. There are over 80 ruins on the island. Most of these date to the Inca period circa the 15h century AD. Archaeologists have discovered evidence that people lived on the island as far back as the third millennium BCE. Many hills on the island contain agricultural terraces, which adapt steep and rocky terrain to agriculture. Among the ruins on the island are the Sacred Rock, a labyrinth-like building called Chicana, Kasa Pata, and Pilco Kaima. In the religion of the Incas, it was believed that the sun god was born here.

The Torre del Popolo (Tower of the People), the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo (Palace of the Captain of the People), the seat of the medieval government of Assisi, and a glimpse of the Roman temple transformed in 1539 into the Chiesa di Santa Maria sopra Minerva (Church of Virgin Mary on Minerva). This Roman temple, one of the best preserved from the ancient world, was built in honor of Hercules in 30 BC. by two of the four magistrates of Asisium, the ancient Roman name of Assisi, but today it is known as the Temple of Minerva. An ancient Umbrian city built starting from the 9th century BC, Assisi became in 89 BC an important center of social and economic domination of Ancient Rome. After the fall of Rome and countless looting due to the barbarian invasions, in the Middle Ages Assisi was conquered by the Byzantines and the Lombards, finally ending up under the dominion of the emperor Frederick I the Barbarossa. Assisi, famous for being the city of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, is a sacred and spiritual place, a world symbol of peace between all the peoples of the earth and the different confessions. Since 2000 the Basilica and other Franciscan sites of Assisi have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Super wide angle image in high definition format.
