Representing the highest level of world carved art in the fifth century, and considered to be exemplary Chinese Buddhist art work at its finest.  Comprising 252 caves and niches and 51000 statues with a carved area of 18000 square meters. A historical milestone fused by Chinese and Western culture in the fifth century A.D. Grotto No.18 was obviously f a little bit Gandhara style, which was the blending  western and eastern cultures. Grotto No.18 was the most luxurious grotto in Yungang. The face of statue in center was sculptured according to Emperor Taiwu of Northern Wei (Tuoba Tao).  The kasaya with thousands of Buddhas was memorized  the buddhists he killed in his region.

The Longmen Grottoes, located on bothsides of the Yi River to the south of the ancient capital of Luoyang, Henan province, comprise more than 2,300 caves and niches carved into the steep limestone cliffs over a 1km long stretch. These contain almost 110,000 Buddhist stone statues, more than 60 stupas and 2,800 inscriptions carved on steles. The grottoes and niches of Longmen contain the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art of the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907).
