Reykjavík, Capital Region, Iceland: Perlan (pearl) is a building located at the top of Öskjuhlíðin hill. The architect of the building was Ingimundur Sveinsson and the building was completed in 1991. Perlan consists of geothermal supply tanks that hold a total of 24 million liters of hot water. On the first floor of the Pearl there is a museum called Glaciers and ice caves,with a man-made ice cave that mimics a natural ice cave, designed and built by Johan Larsson. It's 10 degrees below zero in there. Other exhibitions are: Natural History Museum, Northern Lights Museum, Observatory and Land, Beach and Sea. On the fourth floor there is a cafe, a souvenir shop and an observation deck. On the fifth floor there is a restaurant and a cafe with a view of Reykjavík and Faxaflóann.
