This is a proper pigeon, not a member of the feral gangster mobs that terrorise London's streets. Wood pigeons (Columba palumbus) are seldom seen in large groups, and their gentle cooing carries with it the essence of English country houses situated in large grounds with spreading cedar trees.

L 28-32cm, WS 60-66cm.\nBreeds in wooded areas, forest edge and larger, undisturbed parks with mature oaks and other deciduous trees which provide nest holes (commonest nest choice), locally also on rocky coasts or on buildings on ledges or in holes. Rather shy. Presence perhaps most often noted due to song.\n\nThis is a quite common Dove Species in the Netherlands, but not as common as the Wood Pigeon.
