Built between 1403 and 1412, the Clock Tower in St Albans is the only medieval town belfry in England and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The tower with its fine bell has survived over 600 years of use. The Clock Tower was first and foremost a political statement. The towns people used it to assert their freedom, power and wealth in the face of the premier Benedictine Abbey of England (now St Albans Cathedral)

The war memorial clock tower in Leek with visible names as well as other stores and car number plates. It was commissioned by Sir Arthur Nicholson and his wife when their son died in Ypres, Belgium, during World War 1. It was intended as a memorial to all local men who died in that war and later to the dead of World War 2 as well. Made of Portland stone, it's one of the tallest war memorials in the UK.
