Daphne odora (winter daphne) is a species of flowering plant in the family Thymelaeaceae and is native to China. It is sometimes called Spurge olive, but this name is shared by other plants. It is an evergreen shrub with fragrant, fleshy, pale-pink, tubular flowers. D. odora 'Aureomarginata' has yellow edged leaves, and is hardier and more suitable to cultivation. They are born on tall stems atop an aromatic, green, fern-like foliage. Both flowers and foliage are attractive and long lasting, making White Yarrow a wonderful garden plant and a great choice for prairie or meadow plantings.\nIt is a rhizomatous, spreading, upright to mat-forming. $Issoria lathonia is a scarce resident in the Netherlands. it has both temporary and permanent populations; permanent populations are practically limited to the Coastal Dunes, where it is still common.\nHabitat: It occurs on warm open, dry, grasslands; open patches. Temporary populations are nowadays only found inland, on cornfields that have been left fallow.\nFlight Season: It flies in three generations from mid-April until the beginning of October and hibernates successfully only as a young caterpillar.\nAt present, the species is categorised as vulnerable on the Red List.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Sand Dune Coast in North Holland (the Netherlands) in Summer of 2024.$

The Rock Squirrel (Otospermophilus variegatus) is a medium sized ground squirrel but can also be seen climbing boulders, rocks and trees. It is typically 8-10 inches long, with a bushy tail up to 8 inches long. Rock squirrels are grayish-brown, with some patches of cinnamon color. They have a light-colored ring around their eyes and pointed ears that project well above their heads. In the northern reach of their habitat, rock squirrels hibernate during the colder months of the year. In southern areas, rock squirrels may not hibernate at all. These squirrels are diurnal animals that spend their days burrowed underground or hiding beneath bushes and rocks, only emerging to forage for food or to find mates. The rock squirrel is omnivorous with its diet consisting mostly of leaves, stems and seeds. They may also eat some insects and other small animals. This rock squirrel was photographed on Campbell Mesa in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

$Aglais urticae is a common resident. Migrants are also often seen. Its distribution probably has not changed during the last century. However, the Dutch Monitoring Scheme shows a decline in numbers in the 1990s; the cause is not known.\nAdults can be seen looking for nectar in gardens, parks and on roadside verges. \nThe caterpillars feed on the smaller plants of Urtica dioica in very sunny, open spots.\nThe species flies in two generations from the beginning of March until the end of October. The adult butterfly hibernates in cool, dark places, such as barns, attics, or hollow trees.\n\nThe Picture is made along a small Brook in the Eifel (Germany) in halfway August 2021.$
