This is Russian vine (Fallopia baldschuanica), originating from eastern Asia but here growing in Merton, London. This fast-growing vine is related to Japanese knotweed and has similar invasive qualities, needing no invitation to scramble over trees, bushes and walls. Other names for the Russian vine are mile-a-minute vine; China fleece vine; fleece flower and silver lace vine. Earlier scientific names for the same plant are (Fallopia aubertii), (Polygonum baldschuanicum) and (Polygonum aubertii).

New England has a remarkable diversity of insects.  In the spring and summer, billions of insects emerge in their adult forms in order to reproduce.  In this picture: a praying mantis, a cicada, an iridescent beetle, a pentatomid bug, several flies, and some other interesting finds.  All of these insects were collected in Connecticut.

Spiraea cantoniensis, also called Bridal-wreath Spiraea, Cape May, Double white May, May bush, and Reeve's Spiraea, is a deciduous perennial shrub typically grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. The plant can reach a height of about 2 meters, tends to be twiggy and spreading into a fountain-like form, and displays frothy clusters of white flowers along the terminal of arching branches. The bush blooms in April and May; hence the common name of May bush.
