Melaleuca alternifolia ( Narrow-leaved paperbark Tea tree ). Myrtaceae evergreen tree native to Australia. Tea tree oil extracted from the leaves is used for disinfection and skin care.

There are three kinds of trees known as redwoods. They are the coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and the giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) of California; and the dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) from China. Quite which of these redwood species has made it to Mitcham in Surrey, England, I am not sure. Below: more redwood trees growing in England.

$Acacia baileyana, also called Cootamundra waffle, is a large evergreen shrub or small tree, adorned with a wide-spreading canopy and weeping branches, clothed in feathery, finely cut, blue-gray leaves. The foliage remains appealing all year round. In late winter to early spring, clouds of bright golden-yellow, small, rounded flowers held in axillary racemes cover the branches and create a striking floral display. As some photos show, it is a great plant for slopes and banks.\nThese photos were taken on a very windy day in spring.$

Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) infestation on underside of eastern hemlock branch in Connecticut. This tiny sapsucking insect from Asia, discovered in Virginia in 1951, is a major killer of eastern hemlocks, which are vitally important to Northeastern forest ecosystems. HWA is named for its woolly egg masses. Thanks to introduction of the Japanese ladybeetle, a predator of HWA, many hemlocks in Connecticut have survived since the first waves of tree mortality some 35 years ago.
