Large beetle that feeds on pollen and nectar and pollinator of flowering gums such as Angophora. Endemic to southeastern Australia. Family Buprestidae.

Medium to tall stout hairless perennial forming large clumps; stem thick. Leaves fleshy, undulate and pinnately lobed, waxy. Flowers white, 10-15mm, in broad billowy panicles. fruit 8-14mm, 2-parted, the upper segment globose.\nHabitat: Costal places, shingle and sandy beaches, sea cliffs.\nFlowering Season: June-August.\nDistribution: Atlantic and Baltic Coast of Europe, including Britain and Ireland.\n\nOften growing where there is a rich accumulation of seaweed humus. The young shoots used to be blanched and eaten as a vegetable.\n\nThis Picture is made on the IJsselmeer Coast, Noordoostpolder (The Netherlands).\nThe Species is not common along our Coasts.

Tall, soft gray-wooly, tufted perennial to 2m. Leaves triangular-oval in outline, toothed, mostly slightly 3-5 lobed. Flowers pale lilac-pink, 25-40mm, solitary or in clusters forming leafy racemes or panicles, anthers purplish-red; epicalyx segments 8-9 linear-lanceolate, velvety like the sepals and leaves. Mericarps hairy.\nHabitat: Upper parts of Salt Marshes, brackish marshes, ditches and stream margins, close to the sea generally and at low attitudes.\nFlowering Season: August-September.\nDistribution: Britain, Belgium, France, Holland, Denmark and Germany.\nEdible marsh-mallow was originally prepared from mucilage obtained from the roots and the plant was formerly used as an ingredient of soothing ointments. Occasionally cultivated today. \n\nThis Picture was made in an Ornamental Garden, during a Vacation in Ireland in the Summer of 2022.

Exochorda racemosa, commonly called pearlbush or common pearlbush, is a species of the rose family and is mostly found in China and Japan. Common pearlbush is a loose, upright, early-blooming, deciduous shrub, with the flower buds resembling white pearls, hence the common name. Flowers bloom in spring (April-May) just during the cherry blossom season, each flower being 5-petaled, cup-shaped and white.
Protaetia is a genus of beetles of the family Scarabaeidae, occurring primarily in Asia, and containing over 300 species.

Leptura quadrifasciata, the spotted longhorn beetle, is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae. It was described by Carl Linnaeus in his landmark 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. \nAdult beetles are 11–20 mm long, black with four more or less continuous transverse yellow bands. In extreme cases the elytra may be almost entirely black. It is found throughout the Northern and Central Palaearctic region. \nLarvae make meandering galleries in various trees, including oak, beech, birch, willow, alder, elder and spruce. The life cycle lasts two or three years.\nThe adults are very common flower-visitors, especially Apiaceae species, feeding on pollen and the nectar (source Wikipedia). \n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands on the described Habitats.

Beautiful Manuka (Leptospermum Scoparium) flowers in bloom in sunshine. It is also known as the New Zealand Tea Tree. The nectar source for the highly valued antibacterial Manuka Honey made by New Zealand's Honey Bees. Manuka Honeys are thought to be so potent at healing infections that many hospitals around the world are now turning to them.
