The Pena National Palace is a Romanticist palace in São Pedro de Penaferrim, municipality of Sintra, Portugal. The palace stands on the top of a hill above the town of Sintra, and on a clear day it can be easily seen from Lisbon and much of its metropolitan area. It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th century Romanticism in the world. The palace dates from middle-age times, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal.

This was the site of one of the earliest Roman forts built against Saxon raids on the 'Saxon Shore'. It later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church for Reculver. The tall towers were built in a remodelling of the church in the 12th century.

The Castle of Glamis is the typical Scottish castle, stately, full of turrets and battlements, was the legendary stage of Shakespeare's Macbeth and is open to the public
The entrance of Tonbridge Castle in Kent, England. After William the Conqueror took England at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, his kinsman Richard Fitz Gilbert was tasked with guarding the crossing of the River Medway. He built a simple Motte-and-bailey castle. The castle was later besieged in 1088 when Fitz Gilber's descendants rebelled against William's son, King William II. The king had the castle and Tonbridge burnt to the ground in revenge. By 1100, a new wooden castle was replaced with a stone shell keep and in 1295 a stone wall encircled the town. The castle was used to safekeep the great seal of England for a while when King Edward I visited France. In 1793, the mansion was built, and both buildings are now Grade I listed.
Ardee, County Louth, Ireland: Ardee Castle, Castle Street - Ardee Castle (aka St. Leger's Castle, Irish Caisleán Bhaile Átha Fhirdhia ) is a tower house built originally built by Roger de Peppard in 1207 and rebuilt by John St. Leger in the 15th century - served as a prison in the 17th and 18th centuries and later, until 2006, as the district courthouse. Ardee Castle is the largest medieval tower house in the British Isles. The building is considered a National Monument .
