Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, one of Britain's greatest ever naval commanders, born in North Norfolk in 1758, spent his early years in the village of Burnham Thorpe. This painted statue in full naval uniform and complete with his famous Bicorn hat can be found outside a shop in a village close by to Burnham Thorpe, where he is a local hero.

Plaque on the Lord Collingwood monument in Tynemouth.  The statue was designed by John Graham Lough on a pedestal designed by John Dobson in 1845.  The cannons are from the Royal Sovereign ship which was the one commanded by Lord Collingwood in the Battle of Trafalgar.
