Vientiane, Laos:  Patuxai (literally Victory Gate or Gate of Triumph) - Patuxai was completed in 1968 celebrating Laos' independence from France (1949), in 1995 it was re-dedicated to the 1975 communist victory in the civil war. On top of the gate sit five small ornate towers with finials, one on each corner with the fifth in the center, at an higher level. Built in 1671, Badshahi Mosque is the crown jewel of Lahore, a symbol of the Mughal Empire (1526-1857), and one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan. Its architecture is characterized by carved red sandstones, which was typical of the Mughal era.\n\nThe vast courtyard of the mosque can hold up to 100,000 worshippers, making it the second largest mosque in Pakistan!
