Munich, Germany - 13th of August, 2022. Side View Of Max Monument. The Maxmonument in Munich , also called the Max II Monument , is a large monument honoring the Bavarian King Maximilian II. The year after Maximilian's death, a competition was announced for a monument in his honor to be erected on Maximilianstrasse, which had been built during his reign. The Westphalian-born sculptor Kaspar von Zumbusch emerged as the winner in 1865. Ferdinand von Miller carried out the bronze casting ; the main character alone weighs almost five tons. The monument was unveiled on October 12, 1875. [1] Today it is a listed building.

At each corner of the base of the column is a statue of a putto. The four putte are each depicted fighting a different animal and symbolize the overcoming of adversity by the city: war is represented by the lion, plague by the rooster, hunger or famine by the dragon and heresy by the snake.

Views of historic Dresden, Germany.Dresden is the capital city of the German state of Saxony.  Dresden is the 12th most populous city of Germany and the fourth largest by area.  Dresden is the second largest city on the River Elbe just after Hamburg.Dresden has a history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony.  The city was known as the Jewel Box due to its' Baroque and Rococo city centre.  During WWII the British and Americans bombed the city killing approximately 25,000 people and destroying the city.  The ruins of the city remained for 50 years until being rebuilt between 1994 and 2005.  Dresen is one of the most popular cities visited in Germany.
