Chionanthus retusus, usually known as Chinese Fringe Tree, is a deciduous tree which is spectacular in full bloom. In late spring or early summer, it is literally covered with delicate clouds of slightly fragrant, pure white flowers with fringe-like petals. As the blooms fade, the petals drop like snow on the ground.

Exochorda racemosa, commonly called pearlbush or common pearlbush, is a species of the rose family and is mostly found in China and Japan. Common pearlbush is a loose, upright, early-blooming, deciduous shrub, with the flower buds resembling white pearls, hence the common name. Flowers bloom in spring (April-May) just during the cherry blossom season, each flower being 5-petaled, cup-shaped and white.

Wild, or wood, angelica ((Angelica sylvestris)) is a lover of shaded and moist riversides and woodlands. As with many wild flowers, it has been assigned many herbal / medicinal attributes. It has been a popular food, with leaves, young shoots and stems used as an aromatic addition to salads; or cooked and used as a vegetable. The chopped leaves are said to be a good addition to cooked acid fruits, especially rhubarb. There are recipe suggestions on the Internet. However, as with all riverside umbellifer ('umbrella') flowers, you need to be sure of your identification, since the white-flowered varieties include hemlock and water-drop hemlock, both of which are poisonous. Seen feeding in this photo is a large and common (Volucella) hoverfly.

Spiraea cantoniensis, also called Bridal-wreath Spiraea, Cape May, Double white May, May bush, and Reeve's Spiraea, is a deciduous perennial shrub typically grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. The plant can reach a height of about 2 meters, tends to be twiggy and spreading into a fountain-like form, and displays frothy clusters of white flowers along the terminal of arching branches. The bush blooms in April and May; hence the common name of May bush.
