This is a real photo of a star taken through a telescope. It was taken for the purpose of focusing. The cross (plus) over the star is due to the central obstruction of the telescope (a frame holding the secondary mirror in place). The star is Vega, one of the brightest stars in the northern night sky. Vega used to be a North Pole star some 20 000 years ago.
