Gualdo Tadino, Umbria, Italy, September 30 -- A scene from the traditional Palio di San Michele Arcangelo (Palio of St Archangel Michael) in the medieval town of Gualdo Tadino, in Umbria. An ancient three-day festival that involves the entire community in a traditional Corteo Storico (Historical and Allegoric Parade) and culminates with a donkey race between the four 'contrade' (districts) of this medieval town. In the photo, a scene in period costume during the Historical Parade in the town square in front of the Duomo. An important center since Roman times, Gualdo Tadino rises between Foligno and Gubbio along the ancient Flaminia consular road, traced by the Romans. Its history spans the entire Middle Ages and, despite being partially destroyed and sacked several times and placed under the dominion of Perugia, this ancient Umbrian center still retains its medieval charm. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. Tomar, Portugal - July 12, 2015: Woman and her chaparone taking part in the tray festival (Festa dos Tabuleiros) in Tomar, Portugal. Dating back hundreds of years, the Festa dos Tabuleiros takes place every four years in Tomar in central Portugal. More than 500 maidens, accompanied by their chaperones, parade for 5 km through the streets carrying baskets of bread decorated with flowers. The basket bears 30 loaves of bread each weighing 400 grams threaded onto 6 canes attached to a wicker basket and topped with a crown and on top is the Cross of Christ or the dove of the Holy Spirit. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are attracted to the event that runs over several days, starting with the elaborate street decoration event.
