The image is part of a large series of Georgia wetland shot at 200-500 mm and maximum aperture f/5.6 creating a very shallow depth of field resulting in defocused space suitable for copy/text.

American beech tree (Fagus grandifolia) canopy in dappled autumn light as the leaves start to turn color. In New England, beeches turn color later than most other trees. They will turn yellow, then brown. Beeches have distinctive smooth bark into which unthinking people carve messages. American beeches have been suffering from two new bark and leaf diseases that threaten to decimate the population. These relatively healthy trees could succumb in the future. Taken in the woods of rural Litchfield County, Connecticut.
