The Saint-Pierre de Maillezais Cathedral is a former abbey church, converted in 1317 into a cathedral, located in Maillezais, in the Vendée department. It remained the seat of the bishopric of Maillezais until 1648, when the episcopal seat was transferred to the Saint-Barthélémy-du-Grand-Temple cathedral, in La Rochelle. The first constructions date from the 10th century, then the cathedral completed around the 15th century is abandoned. Then the old cathedral was sold as national property during the Revolution to serve as a stone quarry. The ruins still visible are the refectory, the dormitory, the kitchen, the salt cellar, the ramparts with turrets, as well as the north side of the cathedral (bell tower, nave and transept). A house built towards the end of the 19th century is visible on the site of the former episcopal palace.
