Originally a private trading post, Fort Laramie was purchased by the United States Army and became a popular stopping point for pioneers traveling west from 1840 to 1860 on the Oregon Trail.

Abandoned farmhouse stands alone amidst vast golden grasslands stretching to the horizon on Colorado plains. Dramatic blue sky filled with wispy cirrus clouds forms intricate patterns overhead. Weathered wooden fence posts and power lines punctuate the landscape, emphasizing rural isolation. Golden hues of dry grasses contrast with deep blue sky, creating quintessential American West vista.

On June 18, 2021 while visiting Custer State Park in South Dakota we ventured upon an abandoned house in the park. It stands alone amongst the grazing grounds of the Buffalo. The meadows and mountains reflect a peace and calm many seek.

Photo shows an old wood house in Southern Alberta, Canada. It has a covered porch and there is trash piled up around and in it. Built in the early 1900’s and abandoned for decades, there is extensive wear showing to the wood and metal. This house was built for settlers who moved up from the United States. It was torn down in 2008 to make room for an expanded highway.
