Beijing saw its first-round snowfall of this winter season in the last week, leaving residents to wake up a capital blanketed with powdery white snow. The photo was taken last Thursday. Because the Forbidden City is red as whole, it is particularly beautiful when it is covered with snow. Many tourists put on traditional costumes and took photos. The heavy snowfall seemed to travel back a thousand years.

$he Forbidden City was constructed from 1406 to 1420, and was the former Chinese imperial palace and winter residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming dynasty (since the Yongle Emperor) to the end of the Qing dynasty, between 1420 and 1924. The Forbidden City served as the home of Chinese emperors and their households and was the ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government for over 500 years. Since 1925, the Forbidden City has been under the charge of the Palace Museum, whose extensive collection of artwork and artifacts were built upon the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.\nThe complex consists of 980 buildings, encompassing 8,886 rooms and covering 720,000 square metres (72 hectares)/178 acres. The palace exemplifies the opulence of the residences of the Chinese emperor and the traditional Chinese palatial architecture and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere.$

Zhengyangmen Jian Lou was first built in 1419 during the Ming dynasty and once consisted of the gatehouse proper and an archery tower, which were connected by side walls and together with side gates, formed a large barbican. The gate guarded the direct entry into the imperial city. The city's first railway station, known as the Qianmen Station, was built just outside the gate. During the Boxer Rebellion of 1900 in the late Qing dynasty, the gate sustained considerable damage when the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded the city.

The photo was taken in the Lama Temple (Yonghe Temple) Beijing. There are many ancient buildings in and around the temple, which is the unique sight when covered with snow. That day happened to be the first day of Chinese calendar, and many people came to the temple to pray despite the cold.

The Forbidden City in Beijing was a royal palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties in China, formerly known as the Forbidden City, located in the center of Beijing's central axis. The Forbidden City in Beijing is centered on three halls, covering an area of about 720,000 square meters, with a construction area of about 150,000 square meters, more than 70 large and small palaces, and more than 9,000 houses.

This is a bronze crane sculpture in front of the Taihe Hall of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It was built in the 18th year of Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1420). In front of the Taihe Hall of the Forbidden City, there are cloud cranes standing on the red ridge, made of bronze, about nine feet high. Behind the copper crane on the red ridge stands a copper turtle, made of bronze. Together with the copper crane, it represents the wish of long live huangzuo
