Detail of a rocky beach with (mostly) sandstone rock formation at the coastline of the Greek Island of Chios in the Aegean Sea in early autumn (October). The image was captured on old-fashioned 35mm black and white film by an analogue (or analog) 35 mm film camera. The granularity in the image is real film grain (due to the presence of small particles of a metallic silver on the negative). Minimal post processing has been done (only adjustment of histogram). The image is part of a series of the rocky coastline of Chios, Greece.

This image, shot on a monochrome sensor, is strikingly graphic, with extreme contrast and breathtaking detail. The snow appears in bright, brilliant white patches, sometimes as small cottony clumps, sometimes as mere crystalline dust that catches the light with harsh intensity.Scattered across this deep black ground are dozens of dead leaves in various stages of decay: some still whole and sharply outlined, others reduced to skeletal frames where only the veins remain, almost translucent. Their edges are razor-sharp, as if cut with a blade, and the intricate network of veins is revealed with surgical precision thanks to the absence of color and the brutal contrast. A few leaves are partially buried under snow, creating zones where pure white bites into the anthracite gray of the leaf, producing a stark, almost camouflage-like effect.The texture of the ground itself is highly present: you can make out embedded gravel, hairline cracks, faint tire tracks or footprints, and a subtle grain that gives the dark areas an almost velvety depth.The overall mood is wintry, melancholic, and deeply minimalist, bordering on abstraction at times. The black-and-white treatment pushes the contrasts to their extremes: the whites burn, the blacks are bottomless, and the intermediate grays carve every detail with raw, poetic intensity. ► Free of Artificial Intelligence.

In very rare cases, we have extremely cold weather in Dallas, TX. In those days, we don’t have snow but icy rain. Overnight, ice can form near the river bank. I took this photo in the early morning with my Olympus micro lens. I really like the texture of ice. Those are Mother Nature’s creation.
