De koolmees (Parus major) is een zangvogel uit de familie van echte mezen (Paridae). Koolmezen leven vooral in bosrijke gebieden, maar ze zijn ook heel vaak te zien in tuinen met veel groene voorzieningen. Koolmezen bevinden zich het meest in het struikgewas, tussen houtwallen en houtsingels en eigenlijk overal waar bomen te vinden zijn.
