Ratlum Mountain Schist is the bedrock in this area of Washington, Connecticut. Schist is a metamorphic rock with a strongly foliated or layered texture, often containing minerals such as mica and quartz. When broken, schist may reveal thin irregular plates reflecting the orientation of its minerals. Eroded outcrops of similar Manhattan Schist can be seen in New York City's Central Park.

Rocky beach, consisting largely of sandstone formations, at the small fishing village of Agia Ermioni at the eastern coastline of the Greek Island of Chios in the Aegean Sea on a sunny morning in autumn (October). The image was captured on old-fashioned 35mm daylight ISO 200 film by an analogue (or analog) 35 mm film camera. The granularity in the image is real film grain (due to the presence of small particles of dyed silver halide on the negative). Minimal post processing has been done (only adjustment of histogram).
