Ricordea Mushroom (Ricordea yuma)
The colonies of Galaxea astreata are submassive, columnar or encrusting and commonly exceed 2 metres across in turbid water. Corallites sometimes vary greatly in size depending on where they occur on the colony; they are usually 3-4.5 millimetres diameter. Usually eight to twelve septa reach the corallite centre. \n\nTentacles are seldom fully extended during the day like here: the photo was taken at 3:30 PM. \n\nTriton Bay, Indonesia, \n3°53'59.6184 S 134°6'23.8608 E at 10m depth

The Actinodiscus Mushrooms are also referred to as Mushroom Anemones and Disc Anemones. They were previously in a genus called Discosoma.

Bubbly Honeycomb Coral Euphyllia ancora is on the IUCN Red List since 2008. www.iucnredlist.org The species is widespread with a patchy distribution, but where it is found it is common. However, it is heavily harvested for the aquarium trade and extensive reduction of coral reef habitat due to a combination of threats. \nLembeh Strait is famous for mug diving. Nevertheless, there are very beautiful coral areas, especially in shallow areas. \nLembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia\n1°28'8.916 N 125°14'39.102 E at 5m depth

Flowerpot Corals Goniopora sp. occurs in the Indian and Pacific Oceans; from the coast of Mozambique, to the Red Sea, and east to northern Australia, southern Japan and Hawaii. This is a young colony. \nThe appearance of this pretty coral belies its aggressive behavior. Colonies may be meters across and sometimes whole sections of a reef face are covered exclusively by one branching Goniopora species. The species with extremely large, flower-like polyps, can grow to cover areas of six to ten meters. Each polyp has 24 long and fleshy tentacles that are normally extended day and night, although these quickly retract when touched, revealing the massive skeletons beneath. \nFlowerpot corals are most commonly found in turbid water protected from strong wave action. Flowerpot corals are capable of developing elongated sweeper polyps, like the sweeper tentacles of other corals, which can inflict severe tissue damage on a coral within their reach. It is therefore unusual to see other coral species growing close to the flowerpot coral, and it is believed that this adaptation benefits the flowerpot coral in the intense competition for space on the reef. \nFlowerpot corals have separate male and female colonies (not all corals do) which release sperm and eggs into the water for external fertilisation. The fertilised egg develops into a free-swimming larva that will eventually settle on the substrate and develop into new colonies.\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'55.728 N 125°14'17.256 E at 7m depth
