Saint George's, Grenada: Leucophaeus atricilla, commonly known as the Laughing Gull, is a medium-sized seabird native to the Americas. This distinctive gull species is characterized by its black head, slate-gray wings and back, and white underparts. During breeding season, adults develop a dark hood, while in winter, the head becomes white with dark streaks. Laughing Gulls get their name from their raucous, laughing-like call. They are highly adaptable, found in coastal areas, beaches, and even inland lakes and rivers. These gulls are opportunistic feeders, consuming a varied diet of fish, insects, and human food scraps. They are known for their agility in flight and often follow fishing boats to scavenge discarded fish.
