Kingstown, St Vincent, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Sula leucogaster leucogaster is the nominate subspecies of the brown booby, a large seabird found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. Characterized by its distinct plumage, this bird has a dark brown head, upper body, and wings, contrasting with its bright white underparts. Its robust, pointed bill and webbed feet, often tinged yellow or green, are well-adapted for its piscivorous lifestyle. Known for dramatic plunge-diving, it hunts small fish and squid, often in groups. This subspecies nests on isolated islands, forming colonies on sandy beaches or rocky ledges, and lays 1–3 chalky eggs in simple ground scrapes. A strong flier, it alternates between long-distance soaring and active wingbeats, but it is somewhat clumsy on land. The species plays a vital role in marine ecosystems as both predator and prey, and its populations are generally stable, although local threats like habitat loss and fishing bycatch can impact colonies.
