The stink bug, also called stinkbug, derives its name from its tendency to eject a foul smelling glandular substance secreted from pores in the thorax when disturbed. Many stink bugs and shield bugs are considered agricultural pest insects, because they can create large populations which feed on crops (damaging production), and they are resistant to many pesticides. They are a threat to cotton, corn, sorghum, soybeans, native and ornamental trees, shrubs, vines, weeds, and many cultivated crops.

A rhopalimorpha lineolaris bug
Green stink bug adults measure around 15 millimeters in length and display a color that can alternate between light and dark green. The ventral surface of this species is light green and reddish antennae emerge from it.[3]They are often known as stink bugs due to the unpleasant odor they give off.[6] This stench, reminiscent of aldehydes, is the result of a glandular secretion secreted by the pores on the thorax of this species, when it feels threatened.[6]The longevity of adult specimens depends largely on climatic conditions, such as temperature and humidity, but also on the levels of stress to which the specimen is subjected. In any case, on average they live approximately 117 days, without significant distinction based on sex.[3]
