A Cambodian monk is dwarfed by giant roots from a ficus tree, draping over sandstone ruins at Ta Prohm temple, Angkor, Cambodia. Ta Prohm was originally constructed in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. But later it was abandoned for centuries, during which time the jungle crept in--particularly strangler figs taking a foothold in the stone. It was decided by French archeologists to leave Ta Prohm in its abandoned state, while making sure that stone structures did not collapse.
