Spring snow melt brings alive the small mountain streams in the Swiss alps.

Italy's smallest administrative region, the Aosta Valley, is home to most of the highest peaks in the European Alps. It is so rewarding (and challenging) to hike and climb along its many trails, overlooking some of the most powerful landscapes on earth, including glaciers, green lakes, sharp ridges and majestic overhanging rock faces. Here is the creek in the Rhemes Valley in the Gran Paradiso National Park, once the hunting reserve of the Savoy family. Abundant snow melt waters flow downstream forming rushing waterfalls and rapids.

This is a side view from the bottom of Stewart Falls. Reaching these falls requires a hike from a trailhead along the Aspen Loop highway. This shot was taken in late May when plenty of water was flowing down the falls from melted snow on the nearby mountains.
